Maroons Protest Refusal Of JDF Assistance To Rebuild Roofs Damaged By Hurricane Melissa

Accompong maroon gathered on Saturday 6th 2025 to protest a decision not to accept the Jamaican govt’s offer of utilizing Jamaica Defence Force to rebuild roofs and homes in Accompong Town.

A militant disquiet has been detected amongst the community after they heard that the offer by the govt was being refused.

One maroon who was outspoken said, “it is a flat lie that a legitimate maroon council rejected the offer from the Jamaican govt”. He went further and stated that they will be protesting to let the world know they are willing to accept PM Andrew Holness’s offer.

There’s also a concern that aid has been coming to the town and those receiving it are hoarding the aid and also distributing it in a partisan manner.

PM Holness was recently in the town and delivered a starlink system and a generator to the primary school.

But maroons are arguing that starlink systems and other aid did come to Accompong but none was given to the school.

Accompong was severely affected by Hurricane Melissa.
