BREAKING NEWS

RICHARD CURRIE IS OUSTED, THE ACCOMPONG TOWN MAROON COUNCIL OF ELDERS HAVE SPOKEN.

Official report from the desk of the Accompong Town Maroon Council of Elders. Telephone: 876 9908015 Email: accompongcouncil@gmail.com Date: Sept, 11, 2022

With an astonishing and unanimous vote by the Accompong Town Maroon Council of Elders, all Maroon Council members both in the general Maroon Council and the Grand Maroon Council of Elders voted on September 10th, 2022 to convict Richard Currie on more than 27 IMPEACHMENT charges along with a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE which automatically deposed him from his position as Chief of Accompong town. The dossier contain charges with high crimes and misdemeanors, including breaking and entering, inciting violence resulting in physical body harm, murder investigation, illegal possession of firearms, kidnapping, death threats to various individuals, intimidation, harbouring criminals in Accompong Town, malicious propaganda, deceptive advertising, promoting nefarious persons into Maroon administration, fraudulent intent with precious stone, destruction of private properties, impersonation of royal Title, financial scam, criminal intent to defraud Maroon citizens, etc.

Never in the history of the Accompong Maroon Nation has there ever been such an overwhelming majority in any Maroon Council, the general Maroon Council was decisive and swift in its action on kicking out Mr. Richard Currie from the position of the Colonel’s chair. Many concerned citizens are already aware that the deposed and humiliated Richard Currie will not disappear quietly into the night without a fight, citizens are bracing themselves knowing that Richard Currie will try to fight the Maroon Council of Elders. The fact is, the Accompong Town Maroon Council is the supreme law of the land, not the Chief. The sheer number of members on the Council is remarkably unbelievable, for the first time in Accompong Town Maroon history has there been such a large Council, there is even a grand council within the general council, plus there is also a security council. The Grand council members are in no rush to take up office right away, they are willing to give Richard Currie a few days to vent, run to different media houses for public support and try to fight very hard with the Accompong Town Maroon Council of Elders, one Grand Council member said he doesn’t expect Richard to go without a fight, he understands and he feels sorry for Mr. Currie, but all Mr. Currie has done is destroy the great heritage and culture while bringing shame and disgrace to our community, all he does is braid his hair and go on all the social media and news platforms, he has brought not one single development to Accompong.

Over ninety percent of Accompong Maroon Citizens voiced their opinions that never in the existence of Accompong town have they ever experienced such anarchy in their community, all because of this new Chief. One maroon citizen cried with joy, bending on her knees praying to the sky thanking God for getting rid of the most embarrassing experience and situation they have ever seen or endured in their community.

The Chairman of the Accompong Town Maroon Council of Elders is asking the public to please pray for Accompong and its citizens, for in times like now they need prayers.

Accompong News is not silenced, but Maroons are asking why Accompong News is not putting out what is taking place in Accompong.

The truth is, Maroons themselves know what is taking place, Maroons know the degradation, the injustices, the lack of true, honest and justified leadership. Not only Maroons, but the government of Jamaica, other countries and world citizens know what is and has been taking place.

The traditions of peace are being eroded by scoundrels and vagabonds who present themselves as the disciplinarians and authority in Accompong.

These rebels without a cause of their own continue to plague the maroon enclave. What or Who has given them this authority? Who is in charge of these gunslingers?

In the last week, the “bank of accompong” building has been taken over and the Foster Indigenous Sovereign Hotel was invaded by known individuals. The extent of damages to the properties are unclear to Accompong News at this time.

Of significant importance is the injury of an individual who was at the hotel. The individual has sought medical attention. It is understood that he was beaten by the vagabonds, the same that threatened him days before the invasion.

Maroons are becoming extremely restless and fed up with the inactions to curtail the lawlessness. They believe this is the direct result of weak leadership, misguided by power hungry individuals.

More anon.

With Haiti mired in turmoil more than a year after the unsolved assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, former Jamaican Prime Minister P. J. Patterson said on Saturday an important way that CARICOM countries can help their sister nation is to be a strong voice in the international community and demand that powerful nations do more to address the ongoing crises in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

“CARICOM has to be a voice for justice for the people of Haiti, but for that to be allowed, Haiti has to make it clear to the rest of the world that they are part of a Caribbean family and we have the requisite authority to speak for them and on their behalf and to work with them to realize our objectives,” said Patterson, who is in The Bahamas for the first ever international convention of the Grand Boulé, the oldest continuously existing Greek-letter fraternity for eminent American Black professional men and professional men of African descent throughout the African diaspora.

The conference, which is taking place at Atlantis, Paradise Island and ends tomorrow, has attracted around 2,500 members of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and their families, and is providing an opportunity for like-minded men to have discussions on the strengthening of ties throughout the diaspora.

Patterson was one of the special guests at the Boulé’s opening ceremony on Saturday, which featured a panel discussion where he, Prime Minister Philip Davis and celebrated civil rights leader, Andrew Young discussed the shared historical and cultural ties of those in the diaspora and avenues through which peoples of African descent can work together to better their outcomes.

The former Jamaican prime minister, who heads the University of the West Indies P. J. Patterson Africa-Caribbean Institute for Public Advocacy, spoke with The Nassau Guardian on Saturday evening on a variety of issues relating to forging stronger linkages between Africa and the Caribbean.

On the issue of CARICOM’s role in helping crisis-wracked Haiti, he said, “We have to help largely with technical expertise and I think we have shown a preparedness to deal with that but we can’t omit in all of this that when Haitian leaders speak for the plight of the Haitian people, there are those who would overthrow them, kidnap them, and replace them with persons who are not equally courageous and have the requisite perspicacity to unite the people of Haiti.”

Haiti has been a member of CARICOM since July 2, 2002, four years after it was granted provisional membership.

“We welcomed Haiti into the Caribbean Community in the 1990s because, despite the difference of language, we share so much in terms of our common heritage, and all people of color owe a debt to Haiti in its fight to vanquish the Napoleon army and, subsequently, its declaration that anybody who entered Haiti would become a free man; and Haiti has contributed immensely to the liberation of so many of the nations of the Caribbean,” Patterson said.

Following a catastrophic earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, CARICOM appointed Patterson its special representative on Haiti.

“When the earthquake took place, CARICOM called me out of retirement and asked me to serve as the prime ministerial representative and strenuous efforts were made to get Haiti back on track,” he said.

“It almost seems as if Haiti has been condemned to an unjust penalty because it had the courage to declare independence and the powerful countries have really done a great disservice to Haiti.”

Pointing out that more Haitian doctors practice in Canada than those who do in Haiti, Patterson noted that Haiti suffers tremendously from brain drain.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has observed that “irrespective of the true percentage of the so-called brain drain, the main export of Haiti is skilled labor”.

With economic and social challenges deepening in Haiti, which in recent months has witnessed various atrocities at the hands of street gangs, Bahamian authorities have noted a marked increase in the apprehension of undocumented Haitians in Bahamian waters.

On July 24, 17 Haitian nationals were killed when a vessel they were on capsized off New Providence. Authorities said their ultimate destination was the United States.

Following that tragedy, CARICOM pledged to continue to “work with Haiti and the international community to bring peace, security and development to our sister nation”.

Noting there is so much more the international community can do for Haiti, Patterson said on Saturday, “How much money has been poured into Ukraine in recent times? A tiny portion of that would make all the difference in Haiti.”

When news first hit the Maroon Diaspora community in the USA about Maroons in Accompong Town and surrounding areas getting remittance service, better known as money transfer, many were in disbelief including myself. It was full time. To get the full details about the good news, this news reporter had to track down the persons who are working behind all of this undertaking. This reporter was fortunate for the opportunity to speak with the illustrious businessman who was making all this possible.

Mr. Dennis Foster, born and bred of the Accompong Maroons, Accompong Town, Cockpit Country(an Indigenous sovereign territory, surrendered and ceded to the maroons in 1738 after eight decades of war with the British Empire) is the Chairman of The Foster Indigenous Sovereign Hotel.

Mr. Dennis Foster in this exclusive interview explains why he wants to invest in his people, the Maroons and the place of his birth.

Mr. Foster said, “whenever I have to send money to my family and friends in Accompong Town it becomes a hassle for them, they have to leave Accompong, drive all the way to another town, they have to find a ride, find money to pay for the ride, to and from. They have to find taxi fare they don’t have all the time, plus they have to find the time which is always a hassle”.

Mr. Foster goes on to explain that he had a conversation with his team and he has made a progressive decision, saying enough of this waste of time and money, a remittance service is needed in Accompong Town and I am going to make sure one is created. I know it will be an expensive venture, it will cost millions of Jamaica dollars but it will worth the investment for my people.

This is where the idea of having a money transfer business was born. What if the Maroons could have a digital currency that they could use to do a variety of financial duties, like investing in their future? This is where the business was created, a digital currency was born.

Attorneys and technological advisory personnel along with software design engineers are currently in conversation with a few banks and the U.S. Government to file FinCEN Form 107  with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) at the U.S. Treasury Department. This is required within 180 days of starting the remittance business under the Bank Secrecy Act, which regulates money transfer services that are acting as non-bank entities.

“The unique thing is that we are creating a transfer system for the Maroons, meaning anywhere in the world you are located you can send money to the Maroons, but the Maroons cannot send money to you. So for now, it’s just to receive transfers”, Mr. Foster explained.

When asked how long the process will take Mr. Foster expressed with glee, that his team are in the final stage of obtaining the proper licenses and creating the website. They have to make sure that the website is one hundred percent secure. It will be up and running within a few weeks.

Operating online will save the hassle of overhead costs, but our Maroon brothers and sisters will be limited to working with digital currency only and data charges would apply. Having a location where all Maroons can receive cash from a real person will be an option, because not all Maroons are tech savvy or will have a digital account immediately. Maroons in Accompong and surrounding communities may feel more comfortable knowing they can deal with a real human being as opposed to just an online presence. For now, this remittance service is only for the Maroons, later it may expand to all of Jamaica then Globally, right now it is only for my Maroon brothers and sisters, the deep voiced Maroon business man continued to explain.

Since we will be transferring money exclusively to Accompong Town for now, the fees and transaction cost will be affordable, unlike other financial service companies whose fees are high along with transportation cost incurred when Maroons have to travel miles to receive their money

It will take some time for the Maroons to learn about digital currency and understand how it will work, benefit them and aid in their financial growth.

We must be adaptable and alert, as the rules governing money transfers are constantly changing. As technology, security and international relations evolve, so will the Maroon remittance business.

“I find great joy to know that I am a part of the developing process for the people of Accompong and the Accompong community”, said Mr. Dennis Foster.

Hard working Jamaicans living overseas in the UK and USA are fuming over the comments in the media by Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon.

“Only cowards run away to go to America because they are seeking out opportunity. Opportunities are there overseas, but do not run away and leave your country, especially leaving indefinitely, and you don’t want to contribute to the further development of your country,” said Richard Vernon.

“You same ones who are saying that the country is not going on with anything, what are you doing to develop your own country? They made the sacrifice in America and all the First-World countries so they can live the life that you admire, so do the same for your country and your parish”, Vernon continued.

The frustration however, is not limited to the diaspora, as people in Jamaica are also calling on the deputy mayor to retract those statements.

“The deputy mayor sound like him badmind”, one lady from Manchester wrote.

“He must ask his PM to clarify $43.5 million that was spent on commonwealth campaign. Isn’t New Forest Energy a global compay? More than 90% vouchers given away came directly or indirectly from expats? Why mention that at a back to school event which remittances play a big part in?” said a member of the diaspora from the St Elizabeth community of Pepper district. “In fact they are piggybacking off what the good Jamaican citizens, investors and the diaspora offers and keeping their money to win election”, he continued.

A pensioner living in Jamaica stated, “Him lucky. If I was 20 years younger I gone. I stay here and build pay more taxes than this man and I can hardly drive from my house to Black River. Garbage pile up like the sand on the beach, I go supermarket and I can carry $20k worth of groceries in one hand. I cant even stop by a grocery shop in the community and watch a domino game as I am fretting who going to bounce on me.”

Remittances contribute significantly to Jamaica’s economy.

For the first 4 months of 2021, remittance inflows into Jamaica exceeded the US$1-billion mark. Net remittance inflows of US$1012.7 million increased by 52.6% or US$349.1 million relative to the previous corresponding period.

This improvement resulted from an increase of 46.2% or S$345.7 million in total remittance inflows aided by a decline of 4.1% or US$3.5 million in total remittance outflows. For the month of April, the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) reports that net remittance inflows of US$270.7 million increased by 69.5% or US$110.9 million in comparison to April of 2020. Remittances from the USA accounted for 72.3% of total flows.

That was, however, down from 77.9% recorded for April 2020. For the month April, the UK accounted for 10.7%, of total remittances followed by Canada at 9.3%. (BOJ) (JO)
